Practical overlock control for garments and everyday finishing
The BERNINA L 450 cuts, sews and neatens a fabric edge in a single pass. Its 16 stitches include two-, three- and four-thread formations for working with woven and stretch fabrics, creating rolled hems, and exploring decorative edge finishes. It makes a useful finishing companion to your sewing machine.
Fine-tune the thread at the edge
Micro Thread Control (mtc) adjusts the amount of over-edge thread so you can refine the stitch as fabric thickness or cutting width changes. This gives you a dedicated adjustment for how the thread wraps the cut edge. Use the stitch-length control and five-step presser-foot pressure to further suit the material and finish.
Manage stretch, puckers and gathers
Differential feed helps the fabric move through the machine evenly. Adjust it to reduce waves in knits or puckers in fine fabrics, or use it intentionally for ruffles and gathers. Rolled hemming and overlock formations give you different ways to finish edges as you move between garment construction and decorative work.
An accessible manual threading setup
Follow the colour-coded threading path and use the lower-looper threader lever for setup. A manual needle threader assists at the needles, and the handwheel positioning window helps when preparing the machine for threading. A thread cutter on the left cover is within reach when a seam is complete.
A tidy, well-lit working area
Two LED sewing lights illuminate the needle and threading areas. Frequently used tools are arranged inside the looper cover so they stay near the point of use. The cut-offs bin collects fabric trimmings while you sew and can store the foot control when the machine is put away. The machine sews at up to 1,200 stitches per minute.

Choose accessories for the technique
Compatible specialty feet can expand the L 450 for particular overlocking tasks and are purchased separately. If you prefer knee-operated presser-foot lifting and an included slide-on table, compare the L 460. Choose a dedicated coverstitch machine when your project calls for parallel coverstitched hems.
