Overlocking with hands-free lifting and stitch-by-stitch precision
The BERNINA L 460 trims, sews and finishes fabric edges together, with 16 stitches for seams, rolled hems, flat joining and decorative edges. Its knee-operated presser-foot lift, DC motor and included slide-on table give you extra control while working with delicate fabrics, thicker materials or larger pieces.
Keep your hands on the project
The BERNINA Free Hand System lets you raise and lower the presser foot with your knee. That makes positioning the fabric and handling a new seam easier while both hands remain available. The slide-on table extends the work surface to the left of the needle, supporting larger fabric pieces and improving your view of the project.
From one stitch to a long seam
The BERNINA foot control and DC motor support precise stitch-by-stitch sewing as well as a maximum speed of 1,500 stitches per minute. Automatic needle stop up helps at the end of a seam. This combination lets you slow down for careful handling and increase the pace when the project allows.
Shape the finish around the fabric
Micro Thread Control (mtc) fine-tunes the thread wrapped around the fabric edge, including finishes up to 9 mm wide. Differential feed helps keep seams flat and even, or creates ruffles and gathers when adjusted deliberately. Five-step presser-foot pressure gives you another adjustment for the material. The stitch selection includes four-thread overlock, three-thread super stretch, flatlock, picot and rolled-hem formations.
Threading and tools within reach
Colour-coded thread paths, lower-looper threading support and a manual needle threader assist with setup. Two LED lights illuminate the workspace for threading and sewing. Frequently used accessories are stored in the looper cover; the included accessory box provides space for tools, spool caps and the seam guide.

BERNINA lists additional compatible feet for creative overlocking techniques. These optional feet are purchased separately. The L 460 is intended for overlocked seams and edges; a dedicated coverstitch and chainstitch machine can complement it for other garment finishes.
