Overlock, coverstitch and chainstitch in one adaptable machine
The BERNINA L 890 combines garment construction and finishing functions in a single machine. Its 27 stitches use two, three, four or five threads for overlock seams, coverstitched hems, chainstitching and combination seams. Choose the stitch for your material and finish, then refine the settings as the project develops.
Air threading with your hands free
The One-Step BERNINA Air Threader moves the looper threads through the machine using the foot control. The machine positions the loopers for air threading automatically, so setup does not require searching for the threading position with the handwheel. Colour-coded one-path threading and on-screen animations support changes between overlock, coverstitch and combination configurations.
Guidance or direct control on screen
The centrally located 10 cm colour touchscreen offers Guided Mode for step-by-step instructions and Expert Mode for direct adjustment. Selecting a stitch automatically sets thread tension, stitch length and differential feed. The Sewing Consultant, Stitch Optimizer and built-in tutorials provide help when preparing or refining a seam.
Make the stitch your own
Adjust stitch length, differential feed, thread tension and cutting width individually, including while sewing. Micro Thread Control (mtc) fine-tunes the amount of over-edge thread. Personal Memory stores up to 100 customized stitches, making it easier to return to settings that work well for your projects. Set the minimum and maximum speeds on screen, with a top speed of 1,350 stitches per minute.
Room and support for garment work
The 143 mm working space to the right of the needle provides room for fabric handling. Use the included slide-on table for larger pieces, or the free arm for tubular sections such as sleeves and cuffs. The knee-operated Free Hand System raises and lowers the presser foot while your hands guide the fabric. The foot swings out for needle access, and the foot-control heel function raises or lowers the needle by a half stitch.
